About Compress Image to 1 MB
Plenty of upload forms enforce a hard size cap — a 1 MB limit on an attachment, an avatar, or a document upload. Instead of guessing export settings, this tool searches for the highest image quality that still fits under 1 MB.
It binary-searches the JPG or WebP quality level, and if the image still will not fit, it progressively reduces the dimensions until it does. Everything runs in your browser with the Canvas API, so the image is never uploaded.
Worked example: a 3 MB phone photo compressed to a 1 MB target typically goes through a handful of quality steps — try 80%, too big; try 60%, still too big; try 45%, fits. The tool then shows the final quality level and resolution it used, so you can see whether the result is acceptable or whether you should pick a different target. The original is preserved alongside the result so you can compare before downloading.
