Tip Calculator
Calculate the tip and split the bill.
About Tip Calculator
Tip Calculator works out the tip and divides the bill among any number of people. It is the practical end-of-meal tool: type the bill amount, pick a tip percentage (or set a custom one), enter how many people are at the table, and the calculator returns the tip, the total, and each person's share.
Worked example: an $84.50 bill, 18% tip, split four ways. Tip is $15.21, total is $99.71, and each person owes about $24.93. Tap a preset (10/15/18/20/25%) or type a custom percentage and the per-person figure updates live — useful when the table is debating 15% vs 20%. Optional toggles let you tip on the pre-tax subtotal or the tax-inclusive total, and round each person's share up to the next whole dollar for easy cash payments.
Two conventions worth knowing. US convention is to tip on the pre-tax subtotal, but the post-tax convention is common in some cities and at higher-end restaurants — the calculator lets you pick either base. Tipping norms also vary hugely by country: 15–20% is standard in the US, often 10% or service-included in much of Europe, and generally zero in much of East Asia and Australia (where attempting to leave a tip can be awkward rather than appreciated). The calculator can compute any rate; the right rate is whatever applies where you are eating.
Everything is computed in your browser. The bill amount and the people you are splitting with stay on your device.
